It does not account for incoming freshmen, transfers, potential injuries, or wrestlers changing weight classes.

Chico High – Returning 131.5 Points

Key Returners: Connor Miller (Sr.), Liam Reddam (Sr.), Ryan Muehlbauer (Sr.), Colby Thompson (Sr.), Harold Renick (Sr.), Isaac Lee (Jr.), Chad Murphy (Jr.), Parker Rollins (Jr.), Jesse Harris (Jr.), Cooper Culver (So.)

Chico High returns a massive 131.5 points and features a formidable lineup anchored by senior standout Connor Miller. Miller set the pace for the squad last season by capturing a section championship and successfully advancing to the state tournament.

The roster is further bolstered by a deep and talented group of returning section placewinners. Junior Jesse Harris and sophomore Cooper Culver both put together strong postseason runs, with each battling to an impressive third-place finish at the section tournament. Junior Isaac Lee added a solid fourth place showing, while senior Harold Renick and junior Chad Murphy each battled their way to respectable sixth-place finishes.

Adding significant depth to the team’s battle-tested core is a veteran group of upperclassmen who gained valuable postseason mat time last year. Senior Liam Reddam picked up a pair of victories to finish with an even 2-2 record at sections. Rounding out the experienced lineup are senior Ryan Muehlbauer and junior Parker Rollins, who both contributed to the room as section qualifiers, alongside senior Colby Thompson. Shasta High – Returning 99.5 Points

Shasta High returns 99.5 points and features a powerhouse lineup anchored by a stellar trio of returning state qualifiers in senior Dylan Matthews, junior Morgan Stevens, and Luke Matayoshi. Matthews set the pace for the squad last season by capturing a section championship and successfully advancing to the state tournament for the second consecutive year. Stevens put together an impressive run of his own, finishing second at the section tournament to punch his ticket to the CIF state championships. Matayoshi made an immediate impact during his campaign; after placing third in the section tournament, he clutched a crucial wrestle-off match against the section runner-up to secure his spot at the state tournament.

Unfortunately, Resner came up just short of a trip to the state tournament after dropping a hard-fought wrestle-off match to the third-place winner in his bracket. He will undoubtedly be hungry for redemption this season.

Corning Union High returns a hefty 99 points and features a deep lineup anchored by a talented group of returning section placewinners. Sophomore Jameson Rogers made an immediate impact during his freshman campaign, setting the pace for the underclassmen by battling to an impressive third-place finish. He is joined by a formidable trio of juniors—Grogorio Gauge, Martin Leal, and Jordyn Oakes—who all put together strong postseason runs last year to capture solid fourth-place finishes at the section tournament.

The roster is further bolstered by a formidable group of returning section place winners, highlighted by junior Judah Teague and incoming sophomore Drake Mello. Teague battled to an impressive third-place finish at the section tournament last year and enters this season as a prime contender to punch his ticket to state. Mello put together a stellar freshman campaign, finishing second at sections, though he unfortunately came up just short of a trip to the state tournament after dropping his wrestle-off match to the third-place winner in his bracket. Fellow sophomore Daniel Vaughan also made an immediate impact as a freshman, capturing a solid fourth-place finish at the section tournament.

Adding significant depth to the battle-tested core are senior Makai Stevens and sophomore Brayden Waggoner. Both wrestlers gained valuable postseason mat time last year, with each picking up a victory to finish 1-2 at the section tournament. West Valley High returns 58.5 points and features a lineup anchored by a trio of returning section placewinners. Sophomore Curtis Wert set a strong pace during his freshman campaign, battling to an impressive fourth-place finish at the section tournament. He is joined by senior Billy Smith and junior Austin Domke, who both put together solid postseason runs of their own to capture fifth-place finishes in their respective weight classes.

The roster is further bolstered by a veteran core of upperclassmen who gained valuable postseason mat time last season. Senior Thomas Beckman picked up a pair of victories to finish with an even 2-2 record at sections. Evergreen Institution of Excellence returns 50.5 points and features a formidable dynamic duo led by junior standout Camm Colgate. Colgate captured the section tournament title last season—building upon a runner-up finish during his freshman campaign—to punch his ticket to the state tournament for the second consecutive year.

Complementing Camm is incoming sophomore Cooper Colgate, who put together an impressive varsity debut of his own. Cooper made an immediate impact as a freshman, battling his way to a strong third-place finish at the section tournament. With both Colgate brothers back on the mat as high-level postseason place winners, Evergreen boasts a powerhouse core capable of making significant noise this season.

Las Plumas High – Returning 44 Points

Adding to the team’s battle-tested core of upperclassmen is a quartet of incoming juniors in Colin Hanna, Maverick Shamblin, Connor Safley, and Braeden Knight. Hanna, Shamblin, and Safley each secured a postseason win to finish 1-2 at the section tournament, while Knight rounds out the experienced group after gaining crucial mat time as a section qualifier during his sophomore campaign.

HONORABLE MENTION

Gridley High – Returning 43 Points

Key Returners: Miguel Avina (Sr.), Jose Guillen (Jr.), Logan Hansen (Jr.)

Gridley High returns 43 points and features a lineup anchored by senior Miguel Avina. Avina put together an impressive postseason run last year, battling to a second-place finish at the Northern Section tournament. Unfortunately, Avina came up just short of a trip to the state tournament after dropping his wrestle-off match to the third-place winner in his bracket. With only the top two wrestlers per weight class in the Northern Section advancing, Avina will be hungry for redemption and should be squarely in the mix to secure a spot at the state tournament this season.

The roster is further bolstered by a pair of incoming juniors who gained valuable experience at the section level during their sophomore campaigns. Both Jose Guillen and Logan Hansen put together solid postseason efforts, with each wrestler battling to a respectable sixth-place finish at the section tournament.

Modoc High – Returning 39.5 Points

Key Returners: Vanden Main (Sr.), Kaiden Reich (Jr.), Trysten Hueckstaedt (Jr.), Oliver Battram (So.), Tallon Young (So.)

Modoc High returns 39.5 points and features a lineup anchored by senior leader Vanden Main. Main put together a strong postseason run last year, battling to an impressive fourth-place finish at the section tournament.

The roster is further bolstered by a pair of returning juniors in Kaiden Reich and Trysten Hueckstaedt. Reich gained valuable postseason mat time by picking up two wins to finish with an even 2-2 record at sections, while Hueckstaedt secured a victory of his own to finish 1-2.

      Yes, we will be covering all sections with the exception of the Oakland Section, as no current or historical results were available online. The next installment in our series will feature the North Coast Section and will be published later today.
