After Day 1 of CIF-San Diego Masters, Poway High leads the event with 177.5 points

CHULA VISTA, CA. – The atmosphere at Olympian High is nothing short of electricity as the dust settles on an opening day that can only be described as a masterclass in wrestling dominance. From the coastal breeze of Chula Vista to the heart of the brackets, the narrative of the CIF San Diego Section Masters is being written in bold, emerald strokes.

The “Green Mean Machine” Ascendant

In a display of sheer, unadulterated mat superiority, Poway High hasn’t just taken the lead—they’ve staged a hostile takeover. Amassing a staggering 177.5 points, the Titans achieved the “Impossible Dream” of Day 1: perfect efficiency. Sending all 14 of their gladiators into Saturday’s semifinals, Poway has effectively turned the championship brackets into a sea of green.

The Chasing Pack

While Poway looms large, the battle for the remaining podium spots is a sophisticated chess match of grit and technique:

Granite Hills (128.5 pts): The Division I champions are proving their pedigree, anchoring the second-place slot with eight semifinalists. Keep a close eye on their heavy-hitters at 217 and 285 lbs.

Brawley Union (100 pts): Bringing that storied Imperial Valley intensity, the Wildcats sit comfortably in third, propelled by a formidable contingent of six semifinalists.

La Costa Canyon (87 pts) & Torrey Pines (78.5 pts): The North County powers round out a top five that drips with talent and tactical nuance. Semifinal pairings
