Mason Ontiveros Rules Virginia Beach: Pitman’s Second NHSCA Senior Champion

Virginia Beach, VA – Future Oklahoma Sooners recruit Mason Ontiveros (Pitman High) capped off a legendary high school career by capturing the 182 lbs NHSCA Senior National Title. Ontiveros was untouchable, securing pins or technical falls in every single match this weekend.

In the final, Ontiveros dismantled New York standout Yanni Drapaniotis with an 18-0 technical fall. His most impressive feat, however, may have been his 21-6 dismantling of West Virginia’s 28th 4-time state champion, Jesse Adams, in the quarterfinals.

The Pitman “Elite” List

Ontiveros joins an exclusive fraternity at Pitman High, becoming only the second wrestler in school history to reach the top of the NHSCA Senior podium:

Angel Velasquez (2015) – 132 lbs

Mason Ontiveros (2026) – 182 lbs

Quick Analysis

The Pitman Powerhouse: Pitman High accounted for 50.0% of California’s Senior All-Americans. With Ontiveros (1st), Carter Vannest (4th), and Isaac Padilla (8th), the Pride represented the Sac-Joaquin with absolute authority.

The “Hammer” Metric: Ontiveros finishing with a 100% bonus-point rate across the entire tournament is one of the most dominant statistical runs in recent NHSCA history.

Redemption Rounds: Gabriel Barragan (Esperanza) and Kai Ford (Ponderosa) showed incredible grit, fighting back to take 3rd place in two of the most physical weight classes (182 lbs and 220 lbs).

Southern Section Strength: Kaden Cryer (Moreno Valley) and Gabriel Barragan ensured the Southern Section stayed on the map with top-5 finishes.
