2026 Girls CIF state Day 1; Quarterfinals tomorrow

Bakersfield, CA. – The atmosphere inside the Mechanics Bank Arena is electric! After a grueling Day 1 of the 2026 Girls CIF State Wrestling Championships, the dust has settled on two rounds of championship action, and we are witnessing a heavyweight battle for California supremacy. Forget “close,” this is a dogfight.

Poway (SD) is currently perched at the top of the mountain with 45.4 points, but the Titans are hearing the footsteps of Buchanan (CS), who are trailing by less than a single pin! Both programs have marched six hammers into the quarterfinals, setting up a Friday morning that will determine the fate of the team title.

Quarterfinals are set to begin at 9 AM tomorrow.

The Storylines to Watch

The Tie at #3: Marina and Orange Vista are locked in a dead heat! Both Southern Section powerhouses sent five grapplers to the quarterfinals. This isn’t just a tournament; it’s a sectional war for bragging rights.

The Backside Grind: Look out for Northview and Gilroy. While they sit at 4th and 5th, they have three wrestlers clawing through the consolation rounds. In this tournament, the “Blood Round” is where dreams are made, and those backside points could easily catapult them into the top three.

Central Section Pride: Buchanan and Monache are carrying the flag for the Central Section. With Buchanan within striking distance of the lead, every takedown and every escape tomorrow morning is going to feel like a gold medal match.

The stage is set for epic Day 2. The quarterfinals are going to be a gauntlet, and only the toughest will survive the march to the podium. California wrestling is at an all-time high!
